Here For You - How We Can Help

A Hospice service looks after physical symptoms, emotional reactions, spiritual questions and concerns of life, such as finance and living independently. Importantly our care is free to patients and their familes.

We care for a patient’s family as well as the patient.

Here are some details of how we can help:

Day therapy
Come and spend the day with us. Day therapy provides an opportunity for us to support you in many ways. We offer creative activities for you to get involved in such as arts and crafts, painting and gardening. All designed with you in mind, supporting your independence.
Many people enjoy a massage or an aromatherapy session. Time for you, time to relax.
Out-patient appointments with many members of our team, such as Doctors, Nurses & Therapists are provided. Group sessions are also available to support you with specific problems such as breathlessness, fatigue and anxiety.
You may just like to come and talk to other people with similar illnesses & enjoy some time out.

A place for advice and information
Living with a life limiting illness raises all kinds of questions and issues.
Our team can help give advice and information on a wide range of topics such as completing forms & providing benefi t advice, to discussing your medication. Our 24 Hour Advice Line (01279) 773 773 is designed to support you, your family and our Healthcare colleagues at any time.

In-patient care
We have eight bedrooms here at our Hospice. Each room looks out on to beautiful grounds where wildlife can be frequently seen. You don’t have to stay indoors; each room has its own patio area where you can sit for a breath of fresh air. In the rooms you will find everything you expect of a hotel suite, TV, stereo, comfortable bed and en-suite bathroom.

You may come to stay in our In-patient unit to help get your symptoms under control or for a full assessment of all your needs. You may only need to stay for a few days before going home again. Some patients choose to spend their last days with us because they know the care they will receive is outstanding. They will live whatever time they have to the full with dignity.

Bereavement counselling
It is often very comforting for a patient to know that their family and friends will be cared for after they die. If you’ve been bereaved we are here to listen and talk, whenever you’re ready.

Supporting family & friends
Caring for someone can be exhausting. We are here to help you. It may be you need a listening ear or someone to answer questions you may have.
It might be that a riser recliner chair that we can offer to loan you free of charge, will help with your comfort at home. We tailor our support and care to your individual and family needs

Carers Group

Carers group supporting you Caring can be exhausting, leaving you on an emotional roller-coaster. Why not let us support you.  Join our six week programme, available to carers of patients known to St Clare Hospice. Come and meet others, share your experiences and lean on us for a while.

We will be able to provide you with information and advice to help support you as much as the person you are caring for.

You will also have the opportunity to benefit from complementary therapies, such as massage and reflexology. This group is about how we can help you. You will have the chance to decide which sessions you would like to attend and which would benefit you the most.

The patient and family services team here at St Clare Hospice want to be able to support you, our colleagues in the community.
