Running
for funds

298 runners arrived at the Hastingwood Hospice site on Sunday
(30 March) to run the 10k race. The event so far has generated
around £2.5k with sponsorship money still making its
way in.
Noel Thatcher, who
runs for Harlow running club, won the event with a great time
of 34.14 and Julia Gardiner came in first for the ladies with
43.50 only six months after giving birth. Julia who runs for
Colchester and tendering AC said: "I ran last year here
whilst pregnant, which wasn't a good idea really! I am pleased
with my time this year."
It's the 14th year of the Sunflower run at
St Clare Hospice and over that time has raised thousands of
pounds towards the specialist care of hundreds of local people
with life-limiting illnesses such as Cancer.
Caroline Bore, fundraiser for St Clare Hospice
said: "It was a great day with the weather being kind
to us and the runners! Its brilliant seeing the same runners
return each year. We couldn't do this event without the support
we get from volunteers, local police and Harlow running club."
At mid-day after the end of the race Essex
Police community support officers presented a cheque for £200
to St Clare Hospice. Harlow running club had offered the amount
to the local police in appreciation for the support of community
officers at their running events. Harlow police have decided
to donate the funds to the Hospice, where once again local
PCSO's provided marshalling and support for this years Sunflower
run. Caroline Bore, Event Fundraiser for St Clare Hospice
said: "We are so grateful to the local police and in
particular the PCSO's for their assistance, we simply couldn't
hold the events we do without their commitment."
